When we visited this island, Gow Yan Gyi, it isn’t popular too much and now, it becomes well known as the hidden treasure of the Irrawaddy division. For me, it is a place to enjoy so much, to say frankly, it played a key role in the starting up of my Blog.

I want to return the Gow Yan Gyi Island that is becoming so popular recently. I got there unexpectedly last year, and while I was arranging this trip, my parent didn’t allow me to go alone, and there were some facts you should worry for safety at that time, I had to go by the arrangement of DADDY Travels & Tours, although I wish to go as a backpacker or as an adventurer, anyhow, I felt adventure feeling completely during this trip.

In this article, I added extra information for those, who want to go there by themselves. When I went there, you need to get an arrangement from a tour company. Now, you can go there by yourself and so, I had added more information for your convenience. 

To the Island

From the Yangon, you can start the trip by car at about 9 pm if you are in your arrangement. Along the Yangon-Pathein road, you can drive till you reach the Pathein townships. At the junction of Chaung Tha-Ngwe Saung, make a turn into the Ngwe Saung route. Then, you need to drive 54 miles to get Maw Tin Swan- Nga Yote Kaung junction. At the junction, you are to turn into the Nga Yote Kaung route and drive to the Nga Yote Kaung townships, which is located 17 miles faraway from the junction. Passing through the creeks and paddy fields, it takes you about 30 minutes to get the village. The road is good till the Maw Tin Swan- Nga Yote Kaung junction, but the next 17 miles isn’t good. You had to drive over 10 hours to get there.

If you go there by public bus, you had to start the trip, from the Dagon-Aye Yar high-way station. From there, you can choose one of two high-way cars, namely Kan Htoo Aung and Universal, which depart about 8:30 pm regularly. By the bus, you would arrive at the Nga Yote Kaung townships, 6 am, the next morning. At the bus station, you can hire a motorcycle ferry, and then, you will arrive at the port, where you can get the Gow Yan Gyi Island, within 20 minutes by motorboat via a creek.

It costs you 10000 MMK from Yangon to Nga Yote Kaung, by car.From Yangon, the bus departs at 8:30 pm and for the return trip, the bus departs at 6:30 pm at Nga Yote Kaung townships. You can available the bus service only mentioned time, and so, please make sure not to miss it.
