Mingun is located at the west bank of the Irrawaddy River and North Western part of Myanmar. It is situated in the Sagaing Region and famous for its Buddhist shrines, monasteries, meditation centers and monuments of historical and culture importance.

How to get to Mingun?

It's about 7 miles (11.27 km) West from Mandalay where you can be accessible only by ferry boats across the river. The trip takes about 1 hour upstream of the river and 40 minutes downstream of the river. From the pier you can either walk to the pagoda or take an ox cart marked as the taxi. A boat trip to Mingun might be enjoyable and interesting with beautiful scenery and can experience the lifestyle of the locals. You can also reach it from Sagaing by Sagaing-Mingun Road which is about 11 miles (17.70 km) by road and will take around 30 minutes. When you come along the road to Mingun from Sagaing, you will first arrive at Kandawgyi. It is one of the prominent big four in Mingun. Kandawgyi was formed while digging the earth to make the bricks to build the Mingun Pahtodawgyi.
