Southeast Asia is known for its night markets. Once the sun goes down, the tents go up, and the crowds start rolling in. What looks like a dirty, quiet street during the day can be filled with thousands of people looking for cheap souvenirs and good eats at night. Taiwan is known for its street food, Thailand has the most unique night markets with the craziest experiences you will probably find, and Vietnam is known for its floating markets and great produce. It’s no wonder that Southeast Asia is one of the top tourist destinations.
Yangon does have a night market on Strand Road, but it leaves a lot to be desired. While it has fruit shops, second-hand stores, and restaurants but it’s usually lacking a crowd. The Yangon night market on Strand Road is known for not being clean, and the products in the second-hand stores oftentimes resemble stuff that you might find in a dumpster. There’s been talk for years about revamping the whole night market and stepping up hygienic standards. While that seems to still be in process, other markets have slowly started to pop up.
