Taung Byone Spirit worshipping festival
2019-08-21edit Ye NaungBuddhism is practiced by 89% of the country's population, and is predominantly of the Theravada Buddhism, which is widely known as Southern Buddhism around the world. But, there are also other religions and believe systems in Myanmar. All of them can be practiced liberally in our country and there is also Spirit worshippers and all of believers coexist peacefully in Myanmar.
Traditional festivals are well known and so do Spirits worshipping festivals in Myanmar. One of them is Taung Byone Spirit worshipping festival. The Taung Byone festival is a destination which can’t be missed by all spirit worshippers across the Myanmar.
One of Myanmar fabulous writers, Nu Nu Yi Inn Wa wrote a novel, “Smile as they Bow, Laugh as they Bow,” which is based upon the Taung Byone Festival. Some Western critics said that the novel is written in realism literature style and can express the attitudes of Myanmar society on LBGT and the spirit worshipping. Moreover, American translator, Alfred Birnbaum translated it into English language, namely; “Smile as they Bow”.
